Utilizing the VIIRS sensor on Suomi-NPP and JPSS, NASA scientists can measure the sulfur dioxide (SO2) concentration from the eruption. SO2 is often used as a proxy for the location of volcanic ash. High concentrations of SO2 can also be hazardous to human health and air travel.
Suggested Use:
Blue/green to red/yellow colors indicate higher sulfur dioxide (SO2) concentrations
Satellite/Sensor:
Suomi-NPP and JPSS1 Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS)
Resolution:
750 meters
Credits:
NASA's Direct Readout Laboratory (DRL)
Esri REST Endpoint:
See URL Section on right side of page
WMS Endpoint:
Data Download:
https://maps.disasters.nasa.gov/download/gis_products/event_specific/2022/mauna_loa_eruption_2022/viirs/so2/

",
