Date of Image:
6/23/2020
Date of Next Image:
Unknown
Summary:
The Advanced Rapid Imaging and Analysis (ARIA) data system at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, automatically processed this interferogram or difference between two radar images to produce this suface displacement map. The maps were derived from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data acquired on 3/31/2020 and 6/23/2020 by JAXA's ALOS-2. The area of the coast near La Crucecita, Oaxaca, Mexico moved as much as 35 cm (14 inches) up and west (shown in red).
The ALOS-2 displacement map has been corrected for variations in the ionosphere, but has not been corrected for variations of water vapor in the troposphere. The "bumpy" pattern over areas away from the earthquake was probably caused by water vapor variations in the troposphere. Areas with low-quality measurements have been masked out.
Suggested Use:
Areas in red are surface displacement up and to the west. Areas in blue are down and to the east.
This displacement map should be used as guidance to identify areas of significant ground displacement, and may have voids over heavily vegetated areas and steeper slopes.
Satellite/Sensor:
Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) ALOS-2 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)
Resolution:
30 meters
Credits:
The ALOS-2 data products are processed from original data products copyright (2020) by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and were provided under JAXA ALOS RA6 PI projects 3277 and 3156.
