Service Description: Date of Images:
7/27/2022, 7/29/2022
Date of Next Image:
None Expected
Summary:
This preliminary Flood Proxy Map (FPM) depicting areas that are likely flooded in Kentucky due to heavy rains. This map was derived from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images acquired by the Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellites operated by the European Space Agency (ESA) before (7/15/2022, 7/17/2022) and during (7/27/2022, 7/29/2022) the event.
Suggested Use:
Blue pixels indicate areas that are likely flooded.
This flood proxy map should be used as a guide to identify areas that are likely flooded, and is less reliable over urban and vegetated areas.
Satellite/Sensor:
Copernicus Sentinel-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)
Resolution:
Copernicus Sentinel-1: 30 meters
Credits:
Sentinel-1 data were accessed through the Copernicus Open Hub and the Alaska Satellite Facility server. The product contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data (2021-2022), processed by the European Space Agency and analyzed by the NASA-JPL/Caltech ARIA team. Part of the funding was provided by NASA's Earth Applied Sciences Disasters Program.
