Summary:

The eruption of the La Soufriere volcano ejected ash and aerosols into the atmosphere. Utilizing the OMPS sensor on Suomi-NPP, NASA scientists can measure the sulfur dioxide (SO2) concentration from the eruption. SO2 is often used as a proxy for the location of volcanic ash. High concentrations of SO2 can also be hazardous to human health and air travel. This layer measures the concentration in lower troposphere.

Suggested Use:

Yellow to brown indicates higher sulfur dioxide (SO2) concentrations
