Date of Image:
6/20/2021
Date of Next Image:
Unknown
Summary:
This preliminary map shows areas that are likely damaged (shown by light blue pixels of 30 m in size) in Langtang National Park, Nepal, due to a landslide triggered by heavy rains. The extent of the synthetic aperture radar image used is indicated by the white polygon.
Derived from synthetic aperture radar data acquired by the Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellites operated by the European Space Agency (ESA) before (8 Jun) and after (20 Jun) the event.
Due to steep topography of this area, parts of the map may be subject to slight shift in location or being in radar shadow (not visible to the sensor).
Suggested Use:
Light Blue pixels show areas that are likely damaged due to a landslide triggered by heavy rains. This map should be used as guidance to identify flooded areas, and may be less reliable over urban and vegetated areas.
Satellite/Sensor:
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) on European Space Agency's (ESA) Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellite
Resolution:
30 meters
Credits:
Analysed by the ARIA-SG team at the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) in collaboration with NASA-JPL and Caltech. Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data (2021)
